Keftedes – Meatballs Greek Style

A plate of traditional Greek-style Keftedes, perfectly golden meatballs served on a rustic wooden board, capturing the essence of Mediterranean flavours.

A Very Kruzy Kefty

Kruzy – slang for Kreousa our Great Grandmother, Aunty & Nice’s wonderful name. One thing about these Kreousa’s is they know how to cook – they’ve just got the trick of the trade. They can make something out of nothing!

Keftedes are very versatile, we have them with a Village Salad, Mash and Pea’s, Baked Veggies or have them the next day in a tomato salsa on pasta, swap your bacon out for Keftedes and eggs or even make a burger. The options are endless!

These are a crowd-pleaser and a half – the kids love them, they are a great snack and if they are an appetiser, don’t expect them to last until the main course.

Ingredients

  • 1kg of your preferred mince (pork&veal is our fave)
  • 1 large whole egg
  • 2 finely diced onions on your board
  • 4-5 slices of bread soaked in water
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon to taste
  • Dash of Worcestershire and soy sauce
  • Squeeze of tomato and BBQ sauce (approx 2 able spoons)
  • Season with salt and pepper (can always add more salt later if there’s not enough in there)

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients thoroughly in one large mixing bowl add a splash of warm water to help with consistency and loosen mixture.
  2. Mould into small balls and roll in plain flour before shallow frying in vegetable oil.
  3. Cook until they are golden on all sides.
