Sometimes we ask ourselves these same five things…it’s good for a bit of self-reflection and to remind ourselves why we do what we do.
So who are we?
We are a family run business that prides itself on producing quality traditional kitchen ware with innovative concepts on traditional equipment.
Big boss, Theo, has run Agora Timbers, importing and exporting timber, specialising in premium hardwoods for the past 32 years. This experience has given little bosses, David and Cass a knowledgeable basis on which woods work best for our kitchenware…and also, which ones will simply not cut it, (pardon the pun).
And as for off-springs, Dave and Cass, we are putting a fresh twist on our old man’s ways. We have lived and breathed timber our whole life, that, coupled with our family’s passion for cooking, The Wooden Koutali was born.
So what do we do?
We are a boutique wooden kitchenware store, we specialise in utensils, chopping and cheese boards. Since we are a lil’ start up, our first drop is cute and small, like our Lil’ Mama utensil we aim **and will be manifesting ** to be the one stop shop for wooden kitchen and homewares. TWK brings the same heart and soul to our kitchenware that you bring to your cooking. Our products are thoughtfully crafted, legally and sustainably sourced and add a whole lot of personability to your kitchen.
So when did we start?
Team TWK had this crazy lil’ idea way back when and put it into train in December of 2019, which was followed by a long and exacting process of getting TWK to lift-off. We wanted to make sure our products were ethically sourced, dried for the appropriate time and ensure their suitability for their specific use. Due to the heavy, dense nature of the Australian timber, Brigalow, and our rigorous testing, it became our number one choice! Now we know for sure, these are the heaviest and most sturdy wooden utensils on the market, and as for our chopping boards, you don’t need to go to the gym for arm day anymore!
So where do we do it?
Team TWK were all born and bred in Brisbane, Australia, and we just haven’t left!
We source lumber from all over the world but selected western Queensland acacias as well as Japanese plantation timbers (who knew we were on team with the #antiplastic movement) for our first drop. Our next timber which we are so excited to use in our second drop is PNG Rosewood.
Due to Agora Timbers’ extensive activities throughout Asia and the Pacific, we selected Taiwan for processing because of our strong association built over many years. All products are sanded, coated and finished in our Brisbane warehouse.
Your highly appreciated orders are then packed with lorveeeee dispatched and shipped from Brisbane, Australia.
So why do we do it?
We believe celebrating life starts in the kitchen. Cooking helps people connect, heal and nurture. And to do all that, it takes the right tools. That’s exactly why we created The Wooden Koutali – nostalgic kitchenware with thoughtful and purposeful designs.
Our products are ethically sourced from start to finish, we then turn them into beautiful kitchenware without having to laminate (timber speak for gluing small pieces of timber together) and finishing them with our own organic oil.
Inspired by our late Mum Maree, who had an eye for detail and enjoyed using quality kitchenware to cook delicious meals for her family. Our most joyous memories revolved around the kitchen.
So what are you waiting for? If you want beautiful, hand crafted wooden kitchenware, give TWK a go!
????????
I love your beautifully-told authentic brand story, and, of course, your high-quality products. The website is very well designed and easy to use. Well done! I’ll be sure to recommend to my friends and family! One product suggestion: I’d love to see a stand/rack for the utensil set.
